The first youth camp was in 1957. It’s also a favorite of civic groups,
including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H clubs, American Lung Society (Camp
Christmas Seal) and the American Cancer Society (Camp U Kandu). Created
primarily as a youth camp, the facility now attracts groups of all goals and
sizes including non-profits, corporations and church groups.
Over the years, the camp has grown to include impressive modern facilities,
including 14 camper cabins, 3 main lodges and kitchen offering convenient
food service.
Camp Yamhill is also equipped to make your Challenge Course a complete
meeting experience. The grounds boast a variety of buildings and meeting
places that can be reserved at no extra charge at the time of your event.
Since the 50’s Camp Yamhill has certainly kept pace with the changing needs
and enhanced comfort of its accommodations. In that time, however, one thing
remains unchanged: the pristine natural setting that abounds with wildlife,
beautiful scenery and the wonders of nature. Its forests and meadows are home
to deer and herds of elk. A visitor might encounter a blue heron or beaver at
the millpond or delight in the play of otter who come to feast on a bounty of
fish. Those interested in plant life can find miners lettuce, salad, Oregon
grape, trillium, lady's slippers, camas, cascara and an almost endless
variety of other interesting plants. Our campfire area, located where Haskins
Creek flows into the Yamhill River, is one of the most beautiful and peaceful
spots on earth. |
